"Glacier"

This piece is inspired by glacier formations in beautiful teal, icy white and earthy brown, with a unique rippled pattern throughout.
 
"Glacier" began as shards of colored glass loaded into the kiln in a ceramic pot, then heated to temperatures of 1600F.  The glass became molten and drizzled out of holes in the pot and onto the kiln shelf creating a slab of glass with a rippled pattern in beautiful teals, whites and browns. 
 
The slab was then cut into hundreds of small pieces and placed into the kiln again to create individual pebbles through a second kiln firing.  These pebbles were then meticulously layered into the 14" diameter shape in a gradient pattern and heated in the kiln a third time, where it emerged as a flat piece of glass with a textured finish.   
 
Through a fourth and final kiln firing, it was placed on a ceramic mold and heated just enough to "slump" the glass into a gentle curve, creating a bowl shape.

From design stage to completion, this piece took approximately 10 hours of cutting and assembling time and nearly 195 kiln hours
