Bee Bowl

Help keep our buzzy little friends hydrated with this beautiful "bee bowl"! 
 
This bowl is created in a selection of beautiful jewel tones with corresponding transparent and solid glass on each one.  Sparkly clear iridescent pebbles in the center act as "islands" for the bees to sit on and drink so that they don't drown in deeper water.
 
Note: Add approx. 1-2 teaspoons of water to the bowl, just enough to fill the spaces between the pebbles. Set near flowers or flower pots in the garden or yard.
 
These bowls are fired a total of 3 times in the kiln to get the desired effect.  Circles are cut by hand and initially fired to tempetures of up to 1450F to fuse 2 layers of glass together for the durable bowl base.  The iridescent pebbles are fired in a separate kiln firing.  Once the base layer is complete, the pebbles are added and the piece returns to the kiln a second time to fuse the pebbles on at temperatures of up to 1350F.  At this temperature, the glass melts just enough to "tack" them on, securing them to the base layer and creating texture.  They return a third and final time, balanced on a ceramic bowl mold and heated to temperatures of approx. 1225F to form the gentle bowl shape.
